Department of History

 

About the Department

The Department of History came into existence from the inception of the college in the year 1945 with a meagre strength in B.A. with history as main subject under the affiliation to university of madras.

In the year 1954, after the formation of S.V. University in Tirupati, the affiliation of the department was shifted to it with yearly pattern of examinations. Pre university course (PUC) was also run with history as one subject. For the emps convenience Night College was also run with B.A History Combination. The yearly pattern of examinations changed to CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) from the academic year 2016-2017.

The department grew leaps and bounds and the student strength rose to 750 number in all the three years put together and produced great alumni. At present the Dept. of History is one of the biggest departments not only in the college but in S.V. University area and Rayalaseema Region.

The B.A. course with History, Economics, and Political Science was introduced in English in 1954 and followed by BA (H.E.P.) Telugu Medium, BA. (H.P.T), BA. (H.E.I.C) and BA (H.E.Psy) combinations in Telugu Medium and BA (H.P.E) in English Medium in 1960, 1962 and 1972 respectively.

The Dept. of History has five sanctioned posts and due to increase in sections and students, the workload rose to 7 faculty, of which three regular Lecturers are working now. Balance work was carried out with Guest Lecturers appointed by TTD management in the beginning of every academic year.

The admissions and academic matters of the department is maintained by Head of the Department as per rules and guidelines of APSCHE & S.V. University, Tirupati.

The department of History conducts assignments, seminars, debates and field trips to the students for the exposure and enlightenment.

The faculty of the department enrich their skills and knowledge by attending Orientation Programme, Refresher Courses of Academic Staff Colleges of various Universities and presentation of papers in Seminars, Workshops and Conferences at National and International level.

The student’s calibre is assessed through assignments, internal and external (S.V.University Exams) examinations.

The Department of History established museum in the name of Herodotus, the father of History in 2005 while going for NAAC. Museum has the exhibits of Indian History, World History, Paintings, Musical Instruments, Model Arts and Architecture.
