About the Department
The department of Mathematics came into existence from the inception of the College, the year 1945 with a meagre strength in BA with Mathematics as main subject under the affiliation of Madras University.
The department served 2 years to the Intermediate Mathematics combination Students from 1970 to 1972.
The affiliation of the department was shifted to S.V. University, Tirupati from the date of its establishment in the year 1954 with yearly pattern of examinations. But the pattern has been changed to CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) from the academic year 2016-17.
At present the department of Mathematics, S.V. Arts College, TTD, Tirupati is one of the biggest departments in the college with around 700 number of Students in all three years of UG Courses.
The B.Sc. Course with M.P.C. (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) Group and B.A. Course with M.E.S. (Mathematics, Economics, Statistics) Group in English medium was introduced in the year 1964. The B.Sc. Course with M.P.C. (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) Group in Telugu Medium was introduced in the year 1972.
To cater the needs of the modern society and keeping in view of the emerging challenges in education scenario, the Self-Supporting Courses were introduced in B.Sc. Programme as detailed hereunder and these Courses are continuing even now besides having conventional courses.
- M.P.E. (Mathematics, Physics and Electronics) in the year 1991
- M.P.Cs. (Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science) in the year 1992
- M.S.Cs. (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science) in the year 2002
- M.E.Cs. (Mathematics, Electronics, Computer Science) in the year 2003
Ten Lecturer posts are sanctioned to the department. At present Five Regular Lecturers and Three Contract Lecturers are working in the Department. Two Lecturers were retired from service on attaining the age of Superannuation.
The administration and academic matters of the department is maintained by the Head of the Department as per rules and guidelines of the college.
The Department will conduct Student Seminars, Quiz, Group Discussions, Remedial Classes and Guest Lectures regularly.
The continuous and comprehensive evaluation of the student will be assessed through Oral Tests, Assignments, Internal and External examinations.
Lecturers update their knowledge in teaching/research on participation of Orientation Programmes, Refresher Courses conducted by Academic Staff Colleges of Universities and Seminars, Workshops, Conferences organized by Various Institutions and get latest information through internet by referring Journals, periodicals & magazines.
