The Department of Telugu, Sri Venkateswara Arts College has been started ever since the year 1945. The Department was under the leadership of the Principal and the Devasthanams Educational Officer, TTD. In the year 1960, the language of Telugu along with the combination of History and Political Science introduced as a BA Course (Bachelor of Arts).
There are several well-known and established personalities worked for the Department of Telugu. Initially the Head of the Department viz., Dr.Sadhana Veeraswamy Naidu Garu worked for the Development and Establishment of the Department. Later Shri. Changamaraju, Shri. Chitta Damodar Shastri, Shri. Sachidanandam , Dr.Narala Veerayya and several others who took their mark in the developmental activities. Dr. Jawad Hussain was also been awarded as National Poet.
In past, Professor Shri .Sri Rama Murthy who worked for the Department of Telugu also played a major role as principle of Viveka Vardhini Oriental College TTD, Hyderabad and he was also elected as Member, TTD Board of Trustees. After being retired Professor Dr .Sadhana Veeraswamy Naidu Garu has worked as the first UGC Emeritus Professor. The Novel Bathukaata written by Dr .Rasani Venkata Ramaiah Garu has included in the syllabus as a lesson for Degree students.
